My second CD of music for English country dancing is inspired by, and
contains some of the music published in "The Lover's Luck" by Thomas
Bray in 1699. A few of the tunes are played exactly as written, with others
I have changed the accompaniment a bit. The 18th century had many
such collections as dance became ever more popular. At least two of the
pieces are American born: the Young Widow (c.1788) and "The Belles Of
Newport" by Newport Gardner (1746-1826) considered the first African
American professional musician and composer. As with my earlier collection
A Call To The Dance I have tried to create as authentic a sound as possible.
I think the use of period instruments along with four genuine antiques
makes this an unusual if not unique musical experience
1. The Portugal Minuet - 3:21
2. Softly Good Tummas - 4:25
3. The Lover's Luck - 5:51
